Joseph Licciardi, a Ph.D. candidate in geology at Oregon state University, has been awarded the Jonathan O. Davis Scholarship in Quaternary Sciences from the Desert Research Institute. The memorial scholarship is an annual award to support graduate student field research concerning Quaternary geology of the Great Basin or surrounding areas.
Licciardi won the scholoarship on the basis of his dissertation research, "Towards Developing a Numerical Chronology of Late Pleistocene Glaciation in the Wallowa Mountains, OR, Ruby Mountains, NV, an dyellowstone Plateau, WY, Using Surface Exposure Dating Methods."
DRI scientists Jonathan O. Davis, a prominent geologist and
geoarchaeologist, died in an auto accident near Reno in 1990. The
scholarship, admistered by DRI's Quaternary Sciences Center, is open to
graduate students enrolled in a M.S. or Ph.D. program at any United
States university.
