DRI Scientist elected to Executive Committee of American Society of Civil Engineers

Dr. Richard French, research professor in DRI's Water Resources Center, has been elected to the 5-member Water Resources Engineering Division Executive Committee (EXCOM) of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Over the next three years, French's responsibilities will include overseeing seven funded national committees, a number of funded task committees, and a number of nonfunded sub-committees. During his five-year term, he will also serve as the ASCE division leader and chair EXCOM's award committee.

French has made outstanding contributions to the fields of hydraulic processes on alluvial fans and open channel hydraulics. His books on these subjects are used as standard texts and references around the country and the world and resulted in his being given ASCE's Arid Lands Hydraulic Engineering Award in 1991 and the Desert Research Institute's Dandini Medal in 1996.
