Dr. William Stockwell, an atmospheric chemist specializing in the interaction of weather and air pollution in local and global conditions, has been hired by the Desert Research Institute's Energy and Environmental Engineering Center. Stockwell's initial research at DRI involves the role of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in ozone formation in California, with eventual application to ozone problems across the nation.
Formerly with the Fraunhofer Institute for Atmospheric Research in Germany, Stockwell has contributed to improved models for describing air pollutants and acid deposition in Europe and the U.S. His research interests have ranged from the long range transport and airborne conversion of air pollutants to issues of auto pollution and renewable energy resources.
