Four graduate research assistants at the Desert Research Institute have been awarded nearly $20,000 in Nevada Medal Fellowships for 1999 based on competitive research proposals. The recipients and their projects are: Nicole Brown, "Modeling the Diffusion of Reactive and Nonreactive Solutes in Cores from the Cannikin Test Site, Amchitka Island, Alaska;" Arne LaVen, "Fuel Cell Powered Motor Scooter;" Rina Schumer, "Development of a Fractional Advection-Dispersion Equation Describing Reactive Transport;" and Jeremy Snyder, "Renewable Hydrogen Energy System."
Nevada Medal Fellowships are available to UNLV and UNR graduate students working at DRI and are funded from the proceeds of the annual Nevada Medal Award dinners. Besides acknowledging graduate student achievement, the fellowships are intended to improve student research capabilities and enhance cooperative research work among DRI faculty and students.
