The Desert Research Institute has received a $600 grant from the
American Express Foundation as one of 175 organizations nationwide
selected to receive Volunteer Action Fund grants. The fund awards grants
on a competitive basis to organizations at which American Express
employees regularly volunteer.
The award was made in honor of DRI Research Foundation Trustee
Jason Glavish of American Express Financial Advisors, Inc., in Reno, and
will help support DRI's statewide Science Box Program. The Science Box
Program provides more than 50 hands-on instructional kits for K-12
teachers to use in explaining basic science concepts. Designed by
science teachers and based on Nevada's curriculum standards for the
various grade levels, the boxes are packed in airline roll-on bags and
circulate among classrooms statewide.
