Michael Keith, an air quality laboratory supervisor for the
Desert Research Institute, has been named DRI's Technical Employee of the
Year for 1999, DRI President Stephen G. Wells announced. Wells said
Keith was selected by a committee of DRI technical employees based on his
outstanding work standards, positive attitude, willingness to take on
new tasks and ability conduct very exacting assignments independently.
Keith was nominated by the entire laboratory staff of
professional scientists and fellow technicians in his department. In
addition to completing his bachelor's degree at the University of Nevada,
Reno, in December, Keith also recently helped set up and run a long-term,
continuous air quality instrument monitoring network in Cairo, Egypt, as
part of an intensive research project there. His work has also taken him
to numerous U.S. locations to conduct highly complex sample collection,
followed by exacting laboratory analyses at DRI in Reno.
Wells said that in addition to the appreciation of the entire
institute, Keith will be entitled to a reserved parking spot close to his
work entrance at DRI for a year.
