Rina Schumer, a graduate research assistant at the Desert
Research Institute, has received the 1999 Colin Warden Memorial Endowment
Award of $750 based on a competitive research paper on a new method for
predicting the movement of pollutants in ground water. Schumer is a
Ph.D. candidate in hydrogeology at the University of Nevada, Reno.
Colin Warden was a Washoe Medical Center electrician and an
ardent environmentalist who died in 1991. His family and friends
established the endowment to promote environmental research by graduate
students working at DRI or supervised by DRI scientists.
