DRI's 5th Golf Extravaganza has Lloyds of London, Gold Bricks and an Environmental Message

The Desert Research Institute's 5th Golf Extravaganza at Red Hawk Golf Club July 14 will be insured by Lloyds of London to protect four solid gold bars, valued at $25,000 each, for the team that hits a hole-in-one on the course's par 3 17th hole. The popular fund-raiser, sold out since mid May, will support the institute's worldwide environmental research programs.

Tournament Chairman Jason Glavish said three other holes will also offer hole-in-one prizes including $20,000 in cash on the 12th, four Hawaiian golf vacations for two on the 4th, and four complete sets of Taylor Made clubs and a bag on the 8th. Play takes place on the Robert Trent Jones, Jr. designed Lakes Course, which is also an Audubon International Signature Sanctuary, a wildlife-friendly designation that fits well with DRI's environmental research mission.

Major sponsors for the event include American Express Financial Advisors, Barrick Goldstrike, Bear Industries, FASTFRAME, Gateway Computers, KOLO TV News Channel 8, IGT, International Services, Nevada State Bank, Pepsi, Red Hawk Golf Course, Reno Typographers, Betty Stout, Sprint, and United Airlines.
