May Museum Hosts Reception For "Weather" Photo Exhibit by DRI Professor

RENO, Nev. - The Wilbur D. May Museum, in partnership with Desert Research Institute (DRI), presents a reception for Dr. John Hallett, Professor of Atmospheric Physics at DRI, to introduce "Weather Through Art and Science," his photographic exhibit of sky and atmosphere currently on display through October 31, 2001. The Wilbur D. May Museum is located inside Washoe County's Rancho San Rafael Regional Park at 1502 Washington Street, Reno. For more details, contact the May Museum at (775) 785-5961.

The reception is Tuesday, September 18 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the May Museum, and is open free to the public. Hallett's unique group of 45 photos covers weather phenomena such as snow crystals, hailstones, ice pillars, rainbows, lightning, fog and clouds. The photographs are part of a program for Reno area schools that include a laboratory and field exploratory, carried out at the Raggio Science and Technology Center of the Department of Education at UNR.

The program was made possible by a gift from The Clarkson Company, Omer and Claudia King, Curt and Margie Clarkson, and, Bob and Edna Clarkson. Assisting Dr. Hallett with the exhibit were Ted Foster, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Dudley Cate of the Raggio Science and Technology Center, and Dr. Claudia Miner, DRI Office of Institutional Advancement.

In addition to the reception, visitors can view Hallett's exhibit at no charge each day during regular Museum hours: Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays from 12 to 5 p.m. For admission of $3 for adults and $2 for children, visitors can also tour the Museum's May Collection in the south wing.
