DRI, Sierra Pacific Power Company and the Washoe County School District will unveil a new solar and wind powered alternative energy demonstration site at Traner Middle School May 5, 2004

WHAT: Unveiling of GreenPower solar and wind power demonstration generating site

WHO: DRI, the DRI Research Foundation, Sierra Pacific Power Company and its customers, Washoe County School District, the students, faculty and administration at Traner Middle School, [contractors]

WHERE: Traner Middle School, 1700 Carville Drive, Reno

WHEN: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 5, 2004

WHY: GreenPower is an educational program designed to familiarize Nevada school children with the advantages of using alternative energy resources to offset the use of fossil fuel sources for electrical generation. Funded by SPPC customers' tax-deductible contributions and grants, the program is administered by the DRI Research Foundation. Three GreenPower sites have been established at schools in southern Nevada with the support of Nevada Power Company and its customers.

A nonprofit, statewide division of the University and Community College System of Nevada, DRI pursues a full-time program of basic and applied environmental research on a local, national, and international scale. Nearly 500 full- and part-time scientists, technicians, and support staff conduct some 150 research projects at DRI annually. More than 80 percent of DRI's annual $37 million operating budget consists of research grants and contracts obtained by its scientists. The balance is received from the state of Nevada for administrative costs.
